Chicago Street
One of my favorite projects of all time. The existing home was a classic Dewey Beach Cottage that the owners had outgrown. They wanted to keep as much of the cottage feel as possible while doing a major expansion. We worked closely to maintain the 'feel' of the cottage while modernizing the house and creating much needed space. The existing screened porch/breezeway was updated and expanded to ensure that the clients could continue to utilize their favorite outdoor living aspect of the home. The expansion included a bar seating area attached to a kitchen pass-through with folding windows to create a seamless transition of indoor and outdoor living. The interior and exterior ceilings carried the original look of exposed beams and ship lap style ceilings.Custom doors were ordered to recreate the small double doors on the original home. The flooring in the bedrooms and upstairs living was a re-creation of the original pine floors in both style and color. There was a significant effort to create as much indirect lighting as possible in the house making night-time living a unique experience. To take the project to the next level, the clients took some calculated risks with color and style, including a pale pink exterior, a specialty shower built with IPE and corrugated metal, floating stairs with thick pine treads, and unique tile work throughout the home. All making this home a truly unique and awe-inspiring beach home that stays true to it's cottage roots.
